It’s official loves! I started my internship at Red Light Public Relations in New York City last Tuesday, September 1st and it was such a whirlwind feeling during the week leading up to that day. Studying the best and cheapest way to get there and picturing my weekly grind were quite stressful since I will be in New York during the day then I will be driving to campus for my night classes. I’m taking 19 credits (7 classes) this semester to finish up on January 2016. However, I figured that no matter how well I prepare myself, there’s always gonna be something unexpected and I’m just gonna have to deal with it and push through.
My first week was pretty chill since Erica, the showroom manager, only gave me easy and routine projects around the office. These are things that interns continuously need to do throughout the day. She sends an e-mail through my Red Light PR e-mail address every morning stating what needs to be done on that day. It’s my responsibility as an intern to check my e-mail every morning and come to her before starting any projects to seek instructions and information.
During my first week, I was able to learn how to do pulls, returns, and new arrivals through the RLPR system. “Pulls” means when stylists come in and take samples from the showroom for photoshoots, concerts, or other events of their clients (celebrities or models). “Returns,” on the other hand, is completely the opposite. It is when stylists return these items back to the showroom. When clients send new samples, these are then called “new arrivals” and must be entered into the system. Basically, everything that comes in and out of the showroom must be accounted for. I am actually in the process of organizing all shoes in the showroom by entering them in the system and labeling them with barcodes. I was also given the opportunity to pull items myself for a holiday shoot of a magazine.
Another project that I did this week was arrange the display rack of SO SO Happy in front of the office. This was a bit tricky for me. I had to step out of my obsessive compulsive self and forget about “organizing” and “balancing” these items on the display rack but wear my creative hat and make it look fun, colorful, and happy instead. Duhh, it’s SO SO Happy! lol
Since it’s only been a week, these are just some of the things I have to do so far. I am definitely looking forward to doing more challenging tasks in the future. Let me just take you on a quick tour around Red Light PR Showroom where I will be spending my weekday mornings.
